Bottom Line
Spillway operations are currently underway at Bridgeport, Eagle Mountain, Cedar Creek, and Richland-Chambers. TRWD personnel are evaluating reservoir inflows and spillway operations to manage excess runoff and balance effects at the lakes and downstream. See current conditions below.
April Rain Totals
Did you know that TRWD is proud to partner with the USGS to provide high-quality real-time hydrologic data for over 30 stations in the Trinity River watershed? As April comes to a close, we can review the rainfall totals recorded by the rain gauges at the four TRWD lakes. Notably, Lake Bridgeport received 9.99 inches of rain, the second highest amount since 1990 (11.85 inches). Richland-Chambers recorded its third highest total for April with 8.31 inches of rain.
Projections
The following are the latest projections based on what we know right now.
- Bridgeport: Travel time to the lake can be up to 72 hours for rain that falls in the upstream end of the watershed in Archer and Young counties. Therefore, a significant reduction in inflow and lake level is not expected until Sunday. For the next 48 hours, the level is anticipated to remain fairly constant and is not expected to surpass elevation 839 ft-msl.
- Eagle Mountain: Flood discharges are ongoing to move water in advance of inflows that will be coming from the Bridgeport discharges. Even with these discharges, the lake is expected to reach 649.1 over the next few days.
- Cedar Creek: The lake has crested and both lake levels and discharges are expected to decrease over the next 48 hours.
- Richland-Chambers: The lake level should remain fairly constant through tomorrow before decreasing on Saturday.
*Projections are subject to change and are based on past precipitation.
