Out of an abundance of caution and in response to ongoing concerns about high water levels and potential shoreline damage, Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) officials have announced the temporary closure of Lake Bridgeport in Wise County to all recreational boating activities, effective April 30 at 6:00 p.m.
The closure will help safeguard both public and private property around the lake and minimize the risk of further erosion or structural damage caused by wakes and large waves. TRWD officials stress that while the lake remains safe for viewing and limited shoreline use, boating, including the use of motorized and non-motorized watercraft is not permitted until further notice.
“We understand this may be disappointing for those who enjoy time on the water,” said David Geary, Director of Reservoir Operations. “However, protecting our shoreline properties and ensuring long-term access and safety for all lake users is our top priority.”
The closure will remain in effect until water levels recede to safe thresholds and a full assessment of lake conditions is completed. Updates will be provided on TRWD’s website at Tarrant Regional Water District and through its official social media channels.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to respect the temporary closure and report any unauthorized boating activity to the Tarrant Regional Water District Communications Center at 817-720-4584.
Watercraft or persons found upon the waters of District lakes, reservoirs or other waters during times of restriction, without prior consent of the District or by virtue of other lawful reason, shall be guilty of trespassing under Article I, Section 38 of the General Ordinance of Tarrant Regional Water District.
Residents who live on or own shoreline property at Lake Bridgeport can reach TRWD’s Flood Team at 817-720-4296.
