Reservoir Monitoring Update

By May 26, 2021

TRWD continues to monitor reservoir conditions 24 hours a day.  Yesterday’s rainfall event brought additional runoff to the TRWD watersheds. See Graphic-1 for rain totals for the past 24 hours ending 7:00 am this morning.  The Upper Trinity watersheds recorded 1/4 to 1 inch of rain in during the day, which further increased the Eagle Mountain pool level a couple of inches.  Today’s chances of rain are low and only few isolated storms might occur East. Thursday is expected to stay dry throughout the day, however chances of thunderstorms will resume late Thursday night and will extend throughout the weekend.  See National Weather Service (NWS) guidance for today’s rain chances in Graphic-2. See the late week rain chances in Graphic-3.

Current reservoir conditions are shown below.  Richland-Chambers and Cedar Creek continue to make flood discharges. In response to the rise in pool level at Eagle Mountain from the past rain events, discharges will be increased from 1,820 cfs to 2,590 cfs this morning.  This operation should start the pool level on a downward trajectory today. Bridgeport remains below conservation level and is not expected to reach conservation at this time.  Staff will continue to monitor conditions and make discharges as needed to safely move excess water through the system.  Updates to lake status and flood discharges will be posted here.

Please continue to follow the National Weather Service (NWS)  and the River Forecast Center (RFC) for the latest information regarding weather and river conditions, respectively.

Please be advised that forecasts and projections are subject to change, and TRWD reservoir operations are based on observed rainfall conditions. The next update will come tomorrow morning, unless conditions dictate otherwise.  Please check back.
