Public Information Coordinator

Position Summary:

 

Salary Range – $61,700 – $92,500

 

“This salary range assumes a certified paralegal.  If a candidate with a JD of Law is offered the position, an increase may be applied to the range”

 

This position uses experience and judgment to serve as the District’s public information coordinator in administering its program of response to requests for information in compliance with the Texas Government Code, Chapter 552.  Ensures the District is providing information promptly and is compliant with requirements of the Texas Public Information Act.  This position will also serve as the District’s coordinator for litigation response.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Receive, log, track and fulfill Public Information Act requests
  • Serve as liaison between requestors and District departments
  • Serve as liaison between District and attorneys
  • Provide advice and support to District departmental staff
  • Assist in information compilation and cost recovery
  • Redact confidential records before release to the public
  • Prepare records for Attorney General’s rulings
  • Coordinates resolution of requestor complaints to Attorney General’s Office
  • Develop cost estimates for copies of public information
  • Maintain familiarity with strategic District levels of service
  • Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Required Experience:

 

  • Microsoft Office Suite experience
  • SharePoint experience
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Public Information Act responses
  • Knowledge of Texas Public Information Act
  • Knowledge of Attorney General’s Public Information Handbook
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

 

Desired Experience:

 

  • Experience with applying and interpreting the Public Information Act
  • Experience with processing Public Information Act requests, including requesting clarifications and soliciting Attorney General opinions
  • Knowledge of responding to litigation discovery
  • Experience using SharePoint eDiscovery tool
  • Knowledge of Attorney General’s Open Records Division resources
  • Ability to extract, analyze and manipulate data into usable reports
  • Ability to perform email exchange searches

Required Education/Certification/License:

 

  • Juris Doctor of Law from accredited law school or Paralegal Certification
  • Associates degree with course work in business administration, or a related field
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

 

Desired Education/Certification/License:      

 

  • Juris Doctor of Law from accredited law school
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with course work in business administration, or a related field
