Infrastructure Reliability Engineer III (225)

Salary:  $63,315 – $94,910 annualized

 

Location:  Fort Worth

 

Position Summary:

 

The Infrastructure Reliability Engineer III will manage projects and complete tasks that further TRWD’s vision to enrich communities and improve the quality of life.  This role will work on projects that increase the reliability and resiliency of our system that delivers high-quality water at the lowest cost.  They will evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques for routine challenges and develop original solutions to unique challenges.

 

This role also has a responsibility in many asset management efforts associated with TRWD’s water transmission system that include performance evaluation of pumps and other related assets.  The Infrastructure Reliability Engineer III will also conduct a variety of failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and root cause analysis tasks, identifying potential risks to our operations and developing corrective actions. They will contribute to our continual improvement process and help strengthen the overall viability of our company.  This position will work independently, and on multidisciplinary teams, made up of internal staff and external vendors, to design, or oversee the design of multiple projects.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • The Infrastructure Reliability Engineer III role has a particular responsibility in asset management efforts associated with TRWD’s water transmission pumps and other related “vertical” assets. Responsibilities include:
  • Active participation in the asset management program for vertical assets, including the following responsibilities:
    • Coordinates with operations and others as part of the multi-departmental Asset Management Group
    • Performs SCADA data analysis of pump performance to incorporate pump efficiency and other condition assessment parameters into risk scoring from which prioritization of pump rehabilitation is derived
    • Performs cost benefit analysis to help determine pace of rotating machinery renewal program
    • Incorporates such analysis and other related analysis for vertical assets such as flow meters into the Water Transmission Vertical Asset Management Plan (VAMP)
    • Provides technical review analysis of other vertical equipment condition analysis reports and makes recommendations
    • Works along with Asset Management Program Lead – Engineering Budget Planner to recommend actions and implementation steps associated with the VAMP
    • Verifies, compiles, and presents condition assessment results
    • Reviews facility O&M manuals every 5 years and incorporate any changes
    • Reviews combined record drawings every 5 years and incorporate any changes
    • Actively works with Infrastructure Integrity Manager and geospatial services team to keep any 2D/3D facility data up to date
    • Helps ensure links to shop drawings/record drawings are up to date in Maximo

 

  • Desktop Analysis and Dashboards

 

    • Works with SCADA operators and data management team in creating and maintaining real-time dashboards, such as pump performance
    • Works with infrastructure engineering team to maintain the pipeline dashboard to monitor the water quality
    • Work towards automating the flow meter monitoring system in real time.
    • Documents all aspects of the pump monitoring program, including data quality checks, instrumentation periodic maintenance, calibration of instruments, and purchase of new equipment
    • Takes the initiative in applying new tools to support pumping operations

 

As Infrastructure Reliability Engineer III:

 

  • Plans, schedules, conducts and/or coordinates detailed phases of engineering work in a part of a major field and all phases of engineering work in a moderate field
  • Prepares meeting agendas, reviews meeting minutes and action items from previous meeting, conducts meeting, and assigns or confirms action items at the conclusion of the meeting
  • Performs work that involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents
  • Produces one or more of the following: equipment design and development, testing of materials, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparations, and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific narrow area of assignments
  • Applies a broad knowledge of precedents in the specific practice area and good knowledge of practices and procedures in related areas
  • Performs research, investigations, and analysis and shares information, results, or recommendations with supervisor or project manager
  • Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments
  • Estimates project costs for budgeting
  • Assists with writing business cases for future projects by researching, gathering, and presenting information in an orderly fashion for the expressed intent of informing executive management
  • Assists with customer, or official contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings. Reviews action items from the previous meeting with meeting participants
  • Applies professional and ethical responsibilities
  • Assists with, lead and/or direct the work of lower-level engineers
  • Effectively instructs Engineer I, II, and interns on tasks related to project work and/or technical procedures
  • Assists in coordinating work of interns and/or administrative staff
  • Trains Engineers I-II, technicians, and interns in software applications such as MS Office, GIS, CAD, modeling software, and technical procedures
  • Aids other departments in technical problems
  • Provide Envision support to infrastructure engineering team
  • Participates in professional societies and makes presentations as necessary
  • Maintain familiarity with strategic District levels of service
  • Promotes continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Required Experience:

 

  • Two (2) years of engineering experience as an Engineer II, or related number of years of engineering experience
  • Good leadership and project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point and SharePoint

 

Desired Experience:

 

  • Three (3) years of engineering experience working under a Professional Engineer
  • Engineering Intern
  • Working knowledge of pump hydraulics, machinery, and pipeline infrastructure
  • Prior work experience in sustainable infrastructure projects
  • Prior experience working with operations and maintenance staff
  • Ability to successfully coordinate TRWD engineering and inter-departmental projects
  • Proficient in PowerBI, Esri products, and AutoDesk products

 

Required Education/Certification/License:

 

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering/Civil Engineering/related field
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

 

Desired Education/Certification/License:   

    

  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by the State of Texas, or ability to acquire said license within six months if already licensed in another state.
  • Advanced credentials, including specialty certifications such as:
    • Hydraulic Institute Pump Assessment Certification
    • Asset management certification from the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) or equivalent
    • Envision Sustainability Professional (ENVSP) Certification from ISI
  • Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) or Master of Science (M.S.) in an applicable engineering discipline
