The Engineer I/Hydrologist I is an entry level position that acquires limited knowledge of the District Engineering Department standards, practices, and operations. The Engineer I/Hydrologist I will collect data, gather information or documents, perform routine technical work, and perform engineering or hydrologic computations or analysis.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
* The work performed will be under the direct supervision of or reviewed by a Licensed Professional Engineer
* Under direct supervision, performs routine work which involves conventional engineering/hydrology practices with standard features for which there are precedents
* Utilizes District software and interpersonal skills to research project information
* Applies conventional computational techniques and standard analysis principles
* Uses prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced Engineer/Hydrologist
* Performs research and investigations, analyzes and interprets data, formulates and solves problems
* Acquires knowledge of standard software applications and technical procedures to prepare drawings (and visual aids to assist with project analysis and communications)
* Prepares and distributes meeting minutes
* Coordinates with technicians and administrative staff
* Develops an awareness of professional and ethical responsibilities
* Monitors flood levels, calibrates watershed basins and sub-basins, reports current and expected reservoir and stream data, and recommends actions to Flood Team Lead
* Participates in professional societies
* Maintains familiarity with strategic District levels of service
* Participates in continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
* Performs other duties as required
* Engineering/Hydrology Internship
* Familiarity with RiverWare software
* Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in an applicable engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program OR B.S. degree in an applicable Hydrology discipline
* Valid Texas driver’s license
* Engineer-In-Training (EIT) OR Hydrologist-In-Training (HIT)
