Today the Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) launched a new campaign aimed at exposing participants to the over 70 miles of trails that comprise the Trinity Trails system. The TRWD Trinity Trails Geocaching Adventure is a high-tech treasure hunt that takes you on a journey throughout the entire trail system to discover 30 hidden gems, historically significant locations and some of the most popular spots along the trails.

Geocaching is a popular real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. There are 2.5 million active geocaches and over 6 million geocachers worldwide.

We love a good challenge and that’s why we’re challenging participants to find all 30 caches in the Trinity Trails Geocaching Adventure! To play just download and print the official passport to document and follow the steps below. Once all 30 geocaches have been found and the passport is complete participants can submit their passport to earn an official TRWD Trinity Trails Geocaching Adventure Geocoin. Here’s how to play:

  1. There are 30 geocaches hidden along the Trinity Trails in Fort Worth for you to find. The passport is your proof you found each cache, so keep it dry and clean.
  2. You will find a logbook inside each cache. Sign your name and date the log.
  3. There will be a question on each logbook, log the answer to that question in the coordinating box on your Challenge Passport.
  4. There will also be small prizes and trinkets for trade. Be sure to bring something with you and trade for something of equal or lesser value

Troop 64 of the Trinity Trails District, Longhorn Council helped hide several of the caches as a way to learn about geocaching. Using this knowledge Boy Scouts can earn a merit badge for geocaching. Troop 64 was responsible for hiding the geocaches named First Float, Wakeboard at the Springs, Where the Sidewalk Ends and Whoop on the Loop.

The TRWD Trinity Trails Geocaching Adventure is perfect for families, geocaching newbies and seasoned “cachers” alike. Participating is easy, just download the free geocaching app and visit trwdgeocaching.com to learn about the adventure and get started on your route.
