This year marks the 30th year the Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) has stocked the Trinity River in Fort Worth with rainbow trout. The first stocking of the season took place this morning in Trinity Park and River Park. In total, TRWD released 2,200 rainbow trout. The rainbow trout stocked by TRWD typically range 11-15 inches in length.
“Not many cities can say they have excellent urban fishing opportunities right in their backyard,” said TRWD Board President Vic Henderson. “We are proud to provide a unique recreation opportunity in the heart of Fort Worth.”
Students from Rivertree Academy in Como attended today’s stocking thanks to a partnership with TRWD. After students learned about rainbow trout and saw how the stocking worked, they were able to get down to the river and fish for the freshly released trout
Anglers who could not attend today’s stocking still have a chance to take advantage of the fishing opportunity created by the stocking. While some fish were caught within the first few hours of being released, it can take up to 48 hours for the fish to fully adjust to their new surroundings and thereby resume their normal feeding pattern. This acclimation process leads to terrific fishing throughout the first weekend following the trout release.
