Monitoring and Assessment
The Water District's approach to monitoring water quality and assessing water quality issues is based on the use of sound technology and science.
Monitoring
The Water District monitors its four reservoirs, as well as its lakes used for terminal storage and selected tributaries upstream of the reservoir.
Assessment
Utilization of the Water District's water quality monitoring program and field observations provide insight into the potential sources and magnitude of problems. Based on this understanding, the Water District may supplement its water quality data with sampling and testing activities. Once the appropriate data is gathered, the Water District can apply the suite of models to site specific data needed to evaluate options for correcting problems.
Special Testing Programs
The Water District also performs special purpose sampling and testing programs to address specific issues of interest to the Water District and/or its customers. Special programs have included efforts to gather data components such as atrazine and arsenic.
Watershed/Water Quality Management Program — Results
The Watershed/Water Quality Management Program has tremendously improved the water quality of the Water District's reservoirs. The program has developed valuable information through sampling and testing, mathematical modeling and technical and scientific analyses of issues that affect the Water District's customers. The information developed by the program has resulted in the implemention of watershed and water quality management practices as well as the enhancement of water treatment plant operations.
