Trinity Trails

One of the Trinity River's most used amenities is the 40 miles of hike and bike trails located along its banks. The trails are used by many commuters and recreational and exercise enthusiasts on a daily basis.

Trailheads also have been built at convenient access points along the river to provide parking, picnic space, meeting areas and, at some locations, water fountains for those using the trails.

Maps of the Trinity Trails can be requested at adelaide@streamsandvalleys.org or (817) 335-2491.

Swimming, Boating, and Fishing

Swimming, boating and fishing are allowed on the Trinity River, subject to Texas Parks and Wildlife rules and regulations. In general, fishing is allowed along the river, unless it is specifically posted or as noted on fishing licenses. Swimming in the river is not advisable due to the strong river currents and lack of lifeguards and other life-saving measures needed in public swimming areas.

Parks

There are many parks available for residents and visitors to enjoy along the Trinity River in Fort Worth:

Forest Park is located at University Drive and Colonial Parkway in Fort Worth. It has picnic tables and soccer fields. One of the trailheads is located in the park. Features of interest you will want to visit include Log Cabin Village, Miniature Train in Forest Park and the Fort Worth Zoo.

Gateway Park is on the eastside of Fort Worth just north of the I-30 and Beach St. intersection. The sports complex is complete with snack bar, sports pro shop, restrooms and picnic areas. Softball and Soccer leagues throughout Tarrant County use this facility for regular play and for regional and state tournaments. The park has numerous bike and hike trails, picnic areas and waterfront areas alongside the Trinity River.

Heritage Park is located north of the Tarrant County Courthouse where the Clear and West forks of the Trinity River converge. The park offers great access to the Trinity Trails from downtown.

Rockwood Park, south of the Rockwood Golf Course, offers a large sports complex, housing lighted softball competition fields, soccer fields, t-ball fields and a driving range. Fishing is allowed in the Trinity River, but a license may be required and children must wear life jackets. The hike and bike trail extends through this park along the West Fork, providing a connection to downtown Fort Worth and trails to the east and southwest.

Sycamore Park, on the east side of Fort Worth, offers swimming, tennis, softball, horseshoes, dominoes, basketball and more. Highlights of the park include the Sycamore Community Center and a creek that runs through the middle of the park.

Trinity Park, in the heart of the cultural district, is the second oldest park in the city and has countless historical tales to go along with that honor. Trinity Park is home to Mayfest, a Fort Worth tradition held the first weekend in May featuring food, arts, crafts and live performances. The Water District stocks the river here each spring with hundreds of trout. Fishing is allowed, but may require a license and life jackets may need to be worn by small children.
