Water Fact Sheet
Water Conservation Awareness and Education is one of the main goals of the Tarrant Regional Water District Water Conservation department. We believe that conservation education will help extend our supply by reducing water use and eliminating water waste.
Here are a few interesting FACTS:
- Nearly 97% of all the World's water is salty or undrinkable, 2% frozen, leaving 1% for our use.
- Water regulates the Earth's temperature
- A person can survive about a month without food, but only 5-7 days without water
- Every day in the U.S. we drink about 110 million gallons of water
- In the home, the bathroom uses the most water.
- In the garden, the lawn takes the most water.
- An average bath takes 40 gallons of water, a 5 minute shower 15-20 gallons
- A dripping faucet can waste up to 2000 gallons of water
- Toilet leaks can be detected in about 30 minutes and all you need is a bit of food coloring
