TRWD has been named the 2014 recipient of the Association of Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) National Rehabilitation Project of the Year Award. The district is being recognized for its rehabilitation work on the Eagle Mountain Spillway Dam, which was completed in 2013.

“This was a proactive effort to bring an aging dam up to current design standards,” said Louie Verreault, TRWD’s Dam and Levee Safety Engineer, who has been collecting data and records on the Eagle Mountain Dam since the early 1990’s.  “What we found was the 80 year-old dam is in excellent condition. The measures we implemented during this project provide reassurance that it will perform as expected for another 50 to 80 years.”

Working with engineers at Parsons Brinkerhoff, TRWD gave the dam a complete check-up that included analyzing decades worth of data, collecting core samples and creating flooding models.  In addition, the district added new instrumentation to help monitor conditions within the dam and completed a grouting program that reduced seepage.

Verreault will receive the award on September 23 during the ASDO’s Conference Award banquet in San Diego.
